‘Rough Waters’ ahead
Hundreds of swimmers are getting ready for the 52nd annual Huntington
Beach Open “Rough Water” Pier Swim Saturday.
Roughly 250 swimmers participated last year, said Caroline Butler with
the community service department of Huntington Beach.
The first race for adult men and women will start at 9 a.m., followed
by junior men and junior women at 9:45 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to
first- through third-place winners from the 11 competing age divisions.
The Gene Belshe Memorial Perpetual Trophy will go to the winning team,
and a trophy to the first place Huntington Beach boy and girl.
Swimmers can preregister for the half-mile swim at City Hall in the
Community Services Department on the fifth floor. There will also be a
late registration from 8 to 8:30 a.m. on the beach at the south side of
the pier on the day of the race. For more information call (714)
