Avalanche holds off Avengers in showdown
The Avalanche outscored the Avengers, 3-1, in the decisive third
period and went on to score an 8-6 victory to wrap up the regular season
Wales Division title.
The division’s top two teams were even at 6-6 through two periods of
play.
The win gave the Avalanche (8-1-1) the division’s No. 1 seed in this
week’s playoffs, which culminates with Saturday’s championship match at 9
a.m.
The Avengers go into the playoffs with a No. 2 seed and 7-2-1 record.
David Marabella netted five goals in the contest, including the
clincher at the 1:28 mark of the third period.
Derek Rosas scored one goal and had two assists, Johnny French scored
once with an assist, Travis Nagle scored once and Martin DeJong had three
assists.
Justin Del Campo recorded 15 saves for the Avalanche.
Addison DeBoom’s two goals led an Avalanche attack that featured goals
by Tom Moore, Kevin Ewing, Kyle Anfang and Gregory Martin and assists by
Greg Weaver, Ethan Nicholls and Bryan Van Arsdale.
Brandon Rodriguez had 16 saves.
In other games:
Flames 6, Cutco 0
Tyler Post needed only 11 saves to earn the shutout as the Flames
concluded the regular season at 5-3-2.
Adam Lamotte led the scoring with three goals, Jeremy Cacal scored
twice and had two assists, Jeffrey Andrews had a goal and an assist, and
David Taylor had a pair of assists.
Cutco ended the regular season with a 2-7-1 record.
Young Americans 6, Timberwolves 4
Michael Mowrey led all scorers with three goals, Joey Mahoney scored
twice with an assist, Cameron Monahan scored once and had an assist, and
single assists went to Damian Raburn and Kevin Morris for the Young
Americans (3-6-1).
Ross Turchi finished with 15 saves.
For the Timberwolves (1-8-1), goals were scored by Bradley Kachigan,
Nicholas Capriccio and Chase Holzhauer, Joshua Walker picked up two
assists and Aaron Fulmer had one, and Adam O’Connor had 11 saves.
