Newport-Mesa Scouts assist food drive
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from Newport-Mesa worked alongside Kids
Helping Kids in its 15th annual food and clothing drive earlier this
month.
Formerly “Scouting for Food Plus,” the drive has been organized by the
Boy Scouts of America Orange County Council and remains its largest
community service of the year.
Scouts visited families in their neighborhoods to seek donations of
nonperishable food and usable clothing to give to Second Harvest Food
Bank of Orange County and Goodwill Industries of Orange County.
The Scouts also took donations at Albertsons grocery stores throughout
the county.
Tim Salmon, right fielder for the Anaheim Angels, issued his support
in a press release.
“We consider Orange County our second home, and this program gives us
another opportunity to support four nonprofit organizations in the
community,” Salmon said.
Salmon and wife Marci acted as co-chairs for the event.
“We have always recognized the importance of giving back to the
community and feel blessed to be able to help in any way we can,” Salmon
said.
