Here are some of the decisions coming out of the City Council meeting
on Tuesday.
City budget
WHAT HAPPENED:
Council members added seven additional projects to the proposed
budget.
WHAT IT MEANS:
In creating what they call their budget “checklist,” council members
added a handful of smaller items to the proposed $142.1-million budget.
The council is scheduled to approve the final budget for the 2002-03
fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30, on June 25.
Several council members added projects, which will amount to at least
$348,500.
The full council added $93,000 for ficus tree trimming and $60,000 for
a tree inventory in the city. Mayor Tod Ridgeway requested $30,000 for
the city clerk for a study of city records. Councilman Steve Bromberg
requested $10,000 for the Balboa Island Historical Society.
Also, Councilman Dennis O’Neil asked for $150,000 for a street median
improvement in Corona del Mar.
Vote: 7-0
IN FAVOR
Jamboree Road improvements
WHAT HAPPENED:
The City Council awarded a contract to improve medians on Jamboree
Road.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The council awarded a $250,056 contract to Mega Way Lighting Inc. for
work on Jamboree Road between Bristol Street and North Campus Drive.
The improvement are a joint project with Irvine, whose officials have
said they would reimburse Newport Beach for $88,000 of the work.
Vote: 7-0
