Boys water polo: Sea Kings third

NEWPORT BEACH - The Corona del Mar boys club water polo team
defeated Newport Harbor, 16-4, in the third-place game of the Newport
Harbor 18-and-younger tournament Sunday at Newport Harbor High.
CdM received three goals apiece from Artie Dorr, David DiRocco and Ali
Kattan against Harbor. John Mann, Ryan Moore and Jason DiRocco added two
goals apiece for the Sea Kings, who received one goal from Griffin
Gentry. Beau Stockstill made 15 saves for CdM, which outscored the
Sailors, 8-2, in each half.
CdM’s bid for the championship game was sidetracked in a 6-5
sudden-death semifinal loss to Servite Sunday, also at Newport Harbor.
Dorr scored twice in that game, while David DiRocco, Kattan and Gentry
added single goals. Stockstill made 18 saves against the Friars.
In earlier tournament action, CdM defeated La Canada, 14-3, Saturday.
John Money scored four goals and Dorr added three. Gentry and David
DiRocco chipped in two apiece, while single goals were scored by Tom
Harper, Kattan and Jason DiRocco.
Stockstill (five saves) and Tyler Brundage (six) handled goalkeeping
duties for the Sea Kings.
CdM also defeated Cougar, 19-1, Saturday, with Moore scoring four to
lead the charge.
On Friday, eight CdM players scored including Mann (eight goals) and
Nadeem Hakim (one) to key a triumph over El Toro’s Set B team.
