Costa Mesa man hit with beer bottle

A 22-year-old man was in critical condition Monday after his roommate
reportedly hit him on the head several times with a beer bottle in Costa
Mesa, police said.
Costa Mesa police are still looking for Jose Ramirez, 35, who
allegedly fought with roommate Renalto Flores about 12:15 a.m. Monday at
their home in the 1900 block of Anaheim Avenue, said Lt. Dale Birney. He
said witnesses told police that the two men got into a verbal argument
and then a physical fight that ended with Flores being hit on the head.
Birney said police received a call from College Hospital on Monday
morning saying Flores had arrived there with severe head injuries.
“Because that hospital did not have a trauma center, the victim had to
be transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana,” Birney said.
He said Flores, who had severe cuts on his head, was listed in
critical condition as of Monday but that he “did not seem to suffer
life-threatening injuries at any point in time.”
If and when found, Ramirez will likely be arrested on suspicion of
assault with a deadly weapon, Birney said. He said that if the injuries
were life-threatening, the incident would have been treated as an
attempted homicide.
