Women’s golf: Praise for UCI’s Satarak
UC Irvine freshman Walailak Satarak has been named National Golf
Coaches Association Division I Freshman of the Year, as well as honorable
mention All-American.
Satarak has compiled the lowest 18-hole scoring average of any
freshman in the country at 73.95. That figure ranks 20th nationally among
collegiate women.
She was named Big West Female Golfer of the Year and was a first-team
All-Big West Conference selection.
Satarak, who became UCI’s 22nd female All-American, shot a team-low
round of 67 on her way to winning one of her three tournaments in 2002.
The women’s golf program, in its inaugural year, won the Big West
Championship and advanced to the NCAA West Regional, where the Anteaters
placed 17th.
