Pilot Cup soccer: Harbor Day boys reach 5-6 semis
COSTA MESA - The Harbor Day fifth- and sixth-grade Seahawks boys
soccer team earned a 3-0 quarterfinal triumph over Newport Heights
Saturday, before falling in the semifinal, 7-0, to eventual champion Rea
Sunday at the Farm Field.
Harbor Day, without a single sixth-grader, received goals from
forwards Chase Ross, J.D. Stroud and midfielder Merrett Scott against
Newport Heights.
Midfielders Michael Bear, Eric Wright and Drew Brahs provided
outstanding passing, while solid defense was keyed by sweeper Danny
Miller, stopper Wilson Knapp, as well as fullbacks Bradley Jones and
Kevin Cox. In addition, goalie Andy Morrow posted his second shutout of
the tournament.
The team, coached by Tim Scott, is already anticipating a run at the
2003 title.
