ANTEATER BALLPARK - UC Irvine junior catcher Chris Miller was named
Big West Player of the Week after hitting .500 against UC Riverside this
past weekend in a 2-1 series win to end the regular season.
Miller, who will mostly likely be selected in the major league
baseball draft next week, went 6 for 12 including two home runs to set
the UCI single-season record of 12. The record was previously 10, set by
Bryant Winslow in 1991.
Miller’s first home run was coupled with a two-run single as the
junior scored twice and drove in three in the series opener against UC
Riverside Friday. His 12th homer tied the game as UCI went on to defeat
the Highlanders, 10-9, in the series finale Sunday.
Miller also led the Anteaters with 55 RBIs, 19 doubles and 129 total
bases.
