The Laguna Beach Community Clinic announced that Dr. Chau Ngo has been
certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as a specialist in the
treatment of HIV infection. Dr. Ngo joined the staff nearly two years ago
and regularly sees patients with general medical problems as well as the
HIV infection. . . . The Rotary Club of Laguna Beach announced the
recipients of its 2002 Community Service Awards: Binky Patrol Comforting
Covers for Kids, Brandy’s Friends, CSP Youth Shelter, Friendship Shelter,
Friends of the Hortense Miller Garden, Friends of the Sea Lion, Girl
Scout Council of Orange County, Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Laguna
Beach Seniors, The Laguna Club for Kids, Laguna Community Concert Band,
La Playa Center, Rescuing Unwanted Furry Friends, South Coast YMCA and
Sally’s Fund. Other organizations supported by the Laguna Beach Rotary in
2002 include: Art Institute of Southern California, Boys & Girls Club of
Laguna Beach and Laguna Beach Little League. . . . The Laguna Beach High
School Alumni Assn. held the “All Class Reunion” on May 4. The
association announced that John Encell and Carol Doan, members of the
class of 1953 are engaged to be married. Belinda Blacketer, class of 1964
traveled from Willows to join her dad, “Doc” Blacketer class of 1937.
Madeleine Tompkins Visca, class of 1950, was thanked for coordinating the
event. . . . Ashley Gerber of Laguna Beach graduated from Georgetown
University May 17. She was among 2,697 undergraduate and graduate
students in Georgetown’s Class of 2002 . . . . Daisy and Brownie Girl
Scouts of Laguna Beach spent an afternoon discovering family history on
Saturday, May 11. Thirty-five kindergarten through third-grade girls
brought an older female relative to the special event. The girls and
their guests first enjoyed a picnic lunch. Then they participated in a
variety of activities. The Brownies earned the Try-it badge.
Kindergarten-age Daisy Girl Scouts, who will soon be Brownies, got a fun
taste of the activities they will enjoy at that level.
