Briefly in the News
A three-car accident closed the intersection of Harbor and MacArthur
boulevards, right on the edge of Costa Mesa, for an hour and a half
Saturday morning.
A black Chrysler Sebring ran a red light while going southbound on
Harbor, hit a red Nissan pickup truck, causing the Nissan to slide into a
white BMW, driven by Costa Mesa resident John Fielder, said Lt. Tom
Winter, of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Fielder was not injured in the 7:33 a.m. crash.
Robert Velin, 60, the driver of the Nissan, suffered a fractured
clavicle and abrasions to his head and arms. The Fountain Valley resident
was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
Gilbert Acheveste, the 19-year-old driver of the Chrysler, suffered
swelling to the forehead while his passenger, Espranza Jauregui, suffered
injuries to her head and right leg and was taken to Fountain Valley
Hospital. They are both residents of Paramount.
Police have turned the case over to a traffic investigator.
