Scoring act lifts Bruins past Lakers
Nine players got into the scoring act and the Bruins remained a game
out of first place as they defeated the Lakers, 74-58, in Junior
Basketball League play.
Garrett Preston, the team’s leading scorer with a 23 points per-game
average, led the Bruins charge with 17 points. Other double-digit scorers
included Sam Palfreyman with 14 points and Patrick Curran with 11.
Christopher Hyden added nine points.
The Lakers also had three players score in double figures, led by
Tyler Naylor who hit his season average of 18 points.
Travis Grogan, who came in with a 21.6 average, finished with 16
points and Matthew Renault, who entered the game with a 25 point scoring
average, netted 10.
The win pushed the Bruins to 2-1 in regular season play and evened
their overall record at 2-2.
The loss dropped the Lakers to 1-2 and 1-3.

Clippers 55, Trailblazers 44
The Clippers pulled away from a 22-22 halftime tie to remain a game
out of first place.
Nathan Picket led the Clippers (2-1, 3-1) with 23 points. He was
followed by Jonathan Begay’s 14 points and 11 more by Daniel Holman.Trailblazers’ leading scorer, Brian Delino scored 22 points, which
included three, three-point baskets and five of six free throws.
Blue Devils 72, Rainbows 56
The undefeated Blue Devils (3-0, 4-0) raced out to a 46-24 halftime
lead and remained in sole possession of first place with the win.
Bobby Monroe dropped 30 points, a division best for the day. Spence
Harrell scored 23 points and hit five of six free throw attempts.
Jeff Clark nailed three, three-point baskets and led the Rainbows
(1-2, 1-3) with 29 points. Ian Butters and Nat Weaver hit double figures
with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Clark, No. 2 on the league’s scoring list, had averaged 27.6 points in
his first two games.
Saturday’s game schedule at Laguna Beach High finds the Blue Devils
and Bruins in an 8 a.m. showdown, the Clippers taking on the Lakers at
9:15 a.m., and the Supersonics-Trailblazers game rounding out the action
at 10:30 a.m.
