Two receive Chamber Silver Anchor Awards

Newport Beach Fire Chief Tim Riley and restaurateur and community
activity Clayton Shurley each received a Silver Anchor Award on Wednesday
at the annual meeting of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.
The prestigious award recognizes service to the chamber and the
community. Riley has served on the chamber’s board of directors, is a
past skipper of the chamber’s Commodores Club, and has work on such
community events as the annual Sandcastle Contest, the Mr. Irrelevant
Week Arrival Party, the Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade, and the
Parade Awards Dinner and Auction. He has also been chairman of the
chamber’s scholarship and athletic awards, and has helped with the
Toshiba Senior Golf Classic.
Shurley, owner of Clayton Shurley’s Real BBQ in Newport Beach, is
secretary of the chamber’s board of directors and is active in the
chamber Ambassadors, its Business Expo, Christmas Boat Parade and Taste
of Newport, as well as many other community events and organizations.
Shurley is president of the Newport Beach Restaurant Assn. and is a
member of the Commodores Club.
Dozens of other volunteers were also honored at the chamber event for
service in a wide range of activities and events.
