Sixth grade athletes shine at finals
Ocean View School District recently held its 2002 middle school track
and field finals for its sixth-grade students, where 10 athletes captured
first place honors.
In the girls’ competition, Spring View’s Clarissa Holz won the 800
meters in 2:55 and Jessica Wade won the 400 meters 1:16.54. Marine View
also had a pair of first place finishers in Erica Congelliere, who won
the long jump at 12-feet, 4 1/2 inches, and Brittany Woodward, who won
the triple jump at 25-feet, 1-inch.
Congelliere beat out Marine View teammate Anna Sanders (11-11) in the
long jump, and Woodward finished ahead of teammate Allison Green, who had
a 24-10 in the triple jump.
Vista View’s Danielle Coffman won the 100 meters in 15.36.
Marine View also won the 100-meter relay behind the team of Allyssa
Rogers, Elizabeth Thomas, Kesley Kraiss and Christina Badajos. The
foursome ran a 1:01.66.
In the boys’ competition, Spring View again had a pair of first place
efforts, this time by Scott Baxter and Justin Steen.
Baxter won the long jump at 12-7 and Steen took the 100 meters in
14.52, just edging out Marine View’s Tony Leland -- who ran a 14.53, at
the wire.
The triple jump event went to Marine View’s Kelan Stuart at 28-10,
Vista View’s Jonny Braun won the 800 meters in 2:40, and Mesa View’s Greg
Baca took the 400 meters in 1:10.13. Baca’s teammate, Jose Sanchez,
finished second in the race with a 1:12.19.
Marine View also won the boys’ 100-meter relay. The team of Phillip
Cobb, Stuart, Celso Arcos and Tony Leland ran a 59.10.
