The Huntington Beach Elks Lodge 1959 has donated $1,000 to Project
Self-Sufficiency.
“Project Self-Sufficiency, we feel, is worthy because it gives
opportunity and hope to single mothers,” said Ken Skolyan, spokesman for
the Elks.
Project Self-Sufficiency provides scholarships to low-income single
parents and operates under the Community Service Department of Huntington
Beach.
The Huntington Beach Elks Lodge 1959 donates about $80,000 a year to
various charities and worthy causes in the Huntington Beach and Fountain
Valley communities. In addition to providing scholarships, the Elks also
sponsor students to Boys State in Sacramento, a Boy Scout and Explorer
post, Challenger and Little League baseball, Junior All-American
Football, and anti-drug programs operated by the Huntington Beach and
Fountain Valley Police Departments.
