Laguna Beach Seniors launch e-Bay fund-raiser

The Laguna Beach Seniors will begin auctioning items on e-Bay to raise
funds for a new senior center.
Orange County residents and business owners are being asked to donate
items worth $150 or more. The donations will be posted on the Internet
auction site e-Bay starting May 16.
“Seniors are the fastest growing segment of users on the Internet,”
said Skipper Lynn, president of Laguna Beach Seniors. “It was a natural
approach for us to consider the web in our overall fund-raising effort
for the new Center.”
The e-Bay fund-raiser is one facet of the overall $3.5-million capital
campaign for the new senior center. There are also room-naming
opportunities for individuals and corporations who wish to purchase a
specific room for $25,000 or more. Plans for the center include a
library, technology center, banquet/ballroom, kitchen and meeting rooms.
Currently the Laguna Beach Seniors lease space from the city of Laguna
Beach in the Legion Hall building. The seniors also eat a low-cost lunch
served in the basement of the Legion Hall, said Lynn, which is not well
lit and often viewed as depressing. They also share this space with city
recreational activities.
The Seniors, founded in 1975, is dedicated to serving individuals from
age 52 and older. In addition to health and wellness services, members
can also participate in social events and sponsored trips. The Seniors
also has a tracking program to ensure the well being of all members.
Donations can be contributed from May 16 to June 16. Information: (949) 497-2441.
