COSTA MESA - Vanguard University senior Chad Chop slammed his 12th
home run of the season, but the Lions’ baseball team had its four-game
winning streak snapped, as nonconference visitor California Baptist won,
6-4, Thursday.
The Lions end the regular season at 23-23-1, and will begin Golden
State Athletic Conference Regional play Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Azusa Pacific, where the Lions will duel Point Loma.
Chop, who is leading the team with a .403 batting average, drove in
all of the Lions’ runs and went 2 for 4. He crushed the home run, a solo
shot, over the right field fence to put the Lions up, 2-1, in the bottom of the third inning.
Vanguard held the lead until the top of the sixth when the Lancers put
three runs on the board, when the Lancers posted three runs.
Chop tied the game in the seventh, when his base hit with the bases
loaded brought in two runs. But the Lions couldn’t hold the Lancers
(21-21-2), who scored two runs in the top of the ninth.
Vanguard center-fielder Mike Bair wnet 2 for 5 and scored twice.
