The HB Lightning collected a pair of 10-and-under Division victories
in Huntington Beach Girls’ Softball play by defeating the Firecrackers,
13-4, and the Base Invaders.
Top-notch hitting and pitching dictated HB Lightning’s defeat of the
Firecrackers. Becca Sumner had two hits, Lana Rutkin had a bases loaded
double that drove in two runs, Keely Toma singled twice and tripled,
Rachel Sumner singled twice and Taryn Devich hit a home run and doubled.
Sumner got the win, striking out six.
In edging the Base Invaders, 8-7, in a game that went down to the
final out, Rutkin led the HB Lightning attack with a double, single and
three RBI while scoring twice. Devich had another outstanding game with
three hits and two RBI.
The duo of Devich and Sumner combined for nine strikeouts.
