Boys soccer: Almquist signs with U of San Francisco
Corona del Mar High senior Andy Almquist, a Pacific Coast League
first-team selection the past two years, signed a national letter of
intent with the University of San Francisco Saturday.
Almquist, the Sea Kings’ sweeper and team captain this past season,
said he considered to play for UC Irvine. Instead, he will play for the
Dons and Coach Eric Visser in the West Coast Conference.
“I really liked the atmosphere; it’s kind of a smaller school than
UCI,” Almquist said of USF. “They gave me a partial scholarship and they
also said I have a really good opportunity to come in and start at the
left back position. UCI has a great program, but I kind of wanted to go
away for college.”
