Prep softball: Zoelle no-hits Eagles
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High junior Alissa Zoelle, who did
not pitch last week in order to rest a tired arm, was obviously rested
and ready Tuesday, when she tossed a no-hitter in the Sea Kings’ 9-0
Pacific Coast League win over visiting Estancia.
Zoelle, last year’s Newport-Mesa District Player of the Year, struck
out six and did not issue a walk. The aforementioned error occurred in
the fourth inning, when a CdM infielder had a routine grounder go off her
glove.
Zoelle, now 5-4 as a pitcher, also went 3 for 3 with two triples and a
walk. She scored three runs.
Other offensive stars for CdM (9-8, 5-2 in league) were junior Lauren
Loe (3 for 4 with a home run, triple and double and five RBIs) and senior
Casey Bunney (2 for 4 with a triple).
It was the first no-hitter for Zoelle, who tossed a one-hitter against
Bolsa Grande as a freshman.
