Ready, set -- set
Employees from 11 Huntington Beach restaurants put their table setting
and bread tossing skills to the test Saturday.
About 100 spectators witnessed events such as a waiter/waitress relay,
clean water relay and a long board sand surfing race while sampling 20
different chowders as part of the third annual Huntington Beach
Restaurant Olympics.
Teams from Fred’s Mexican Cafe and Cantina took first place in the
table setting for the time and perfection contest, with BJ’s Restaurant
and Brewhouse taking second and Duke’s trailing in third.
Sloane Robinson, a 19-year-old hostess at Duke’s, was one of four
Duke’s employees that alternated setting a place for a table of four in
the table setting competition.
Her favorite event was the bread toss.
“It’s aggressive and fun because you get to whip the bread around,”
Robinson said.
Proceeds from chowder sales benefit the Boys and Girls Club of
Huntington Beach.
