Youth basketball: Heiser sparkles
Garret Heiser nailed two free throws with four-tenths of a second
left to lead the Magic to a 39-38 victory over the Lakers in a thrilling
Boys and Girls Club sixth-grade championship game.
Heiser finished with 11 points, and Beau Caillouette led the champions
with 13 points.
R.J. D’Cruz scored a game-high 17 points for the Lakers, who battled
back from a 12-point first-quarter deficit. Jameson Galey added 12 points
for the Lakers, while Austin Carden scored 10 for the Magic.
The Magic’s defense was also instrumental in the victory, and
Caillouette, Dylan Guibert, Brandon Parole, Catherine Cameron, Ben Swift
and Brice Calvin headed the stingy stand.
The Magic will be honored at the awards ceremony along with seven
other sixth-grade teams at the Costa Mesa Boys and Girls Club Monday at
6:30 p.m.
