LA VERNE - Costa Mesa High junior Sharon Day set a meet record to
win the girls high jump with a mark of 5-6 Saturday for one of several
Mesa highlights at the La Verne Relays at the University of La Verne.
Sophomore Christine Bjelland ran a personal-beat 5:20 in the leadoff
1,600 meters of the distance medley and later contributed to a victorious
1,600 relay that included teammates Day, Cheryl Hack and Stacy Krikorian.
Day, Rachel Hughes, Krikorian and Sarah Bryant also teamed to win the 400
relay to help the Mustangs prepare for today’s Pacific Coast League
opener against University at Orange Coast College.
The meet will also mark the PCL debut of newly named boys and girls head
coach George Greenwalt, who fills the void left when longtime coach John
Carney resigned last month.
