PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP

WHAT HAPPENED:
The Planning Commission unanimously approved a permit for Robert Mayer
Corp. to build 184 attached multifamily homes on 22.6 acres behind the
Waterfront Hilton Resort.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Grading on the site should begin this summer with construction
scheduled to start by the end of the year, barring any appeals filed by
March 26, said project planner Paul Da Veiga.
About 200,000 cubic yards of soil will need to be added to the land.
Tentative plans call for a one-acre parcel of wetlands and a 2.4-acre
area proposed as a buffer between the wetlands and the development.
The 184 Mediterranean-style homes will be a mixture of
3,000-square-foot homes and two- and three-story 2,000-square-foot
townhomes set up around courtyards.
Landscape walkways will meander through the detached homes, Da Veiga
said.
Developers first submitted plans to build 800 homes on the site in
1988, but scaled down the maximum number to 230 in 1998, Da Veiga said.
