o7 The Independent went to Harbor View Elementary School in
Huntington Beach to ask third graders, “What is the luckiest thing that’s
ever happened to you?”

“I went to the Vans skate park at the Block in Orange. I got to go to
a real place to skateboard instead of skating in my own backyard. My mom
took me and my friend.”

“The state coming out to check our school to see if it’s the the best
in the state of California.”

“When it was Christmas and my mom said she might get a skateboard. We
went to my aunt’s house and there wasn’t a skateboard there. Then on the
25th there was a big straight thing wrapped in plastic. I took it outside
and started riding it in my pajamas.”

“When I found out I made GATE. It teaches you extra stuff. If you’re
in fourth grade it they teach you fifth grade stuff.”

“The first day I went to Harbor View because my teacher was really
nice and she helped me learn a lot. I heard it had a lot of kids and I
made a lot of friends.”
