Prep track and field: Rojas paces Eagles

IRVINE - Estancia High junior Humberto Rojas led from start to
finish to capture the open 1,600 meters Saturday at the Irvine
Invitational track and field meet at Irvine High.
Rojas’ winning time was 4:25.1.
Senior Mike Casillas was third in the Division I 3,200 (9:57.1),
followed by Estancia teammate Abel Flores in fourth.
Sophomore Pantilo Elias was sixth in 800 (2:01.89).
The Eagles’ 1,600 relay of Abdul Kalyum, Elias, Flores and Rojas
recorded the program’s fastest time in the last two seasons (4:34.4).
Estancia’s girls were paced by junior Diana Rosette, who was third in
the 3,200 (11:57.4) and seventh in the 1,600 (5:27.8).
Senior twins Hanni and Jasmine Geider won their heats in the 400
(1:02.6 and 1:03.7, respectively) though no overall place was reported.
Ludi Valdez was seventh in the 300 hurdles (53.0) for the Eagles, who
received an eighth-place showing from the 1,600 relay of both Geiders,
Valdez and Rosette (4:20.7).
