The South Huntington Beach Chargers had double duty Sunday, but the
boys’ eighth-grade All-Net team was up to the task as they defeated
Bakersfield, 75-57, and Whittier, 52-30, in National Junior Basketball
boys’ action.
The host Chargers jumped out to a 46-25 halftime lead on Bakersfield
(10-3) and cruised to the 18-point victory. T.J. Lipold led all scorers
with 32 points, Taylor King netted 25 and Casey Becker had 10.
The Chargers then took to the road to face host Whittier. Despite the
travel and the fact that they played the game with just five players,
South Huntington Beach was up 29-14 at the break on rolled to a 52-30
win. Lipold again led the way as he finished with a game high 24 points
and Becker scored 18.
The Chargers have a full slate this weekend. Saturday, they visit
Monterey Park in a 4:30 p.m. tip-off. On Sunday, they will play
back-to-back games at Edison High, hosting La Mirada at noon and East
Huntington Beach at 1:15 p.m.
