Prep baseball: Sage Hill prevail
NEWPORT COAST - Three Sage Hill High baseball pitchers combined on
a near-no-hitter Wednesday, as the Lightning defeated nonleague visitor
Whitney, 10-4, Wednesday.
Sage Hill needed just one out to finish the no-no, but a double in the
seventh gave Whitney its lone hit.
Starting pitcher Jordan Salinger tripled in a run to cap a six-run
third, as the Lightning improved to 2-0.
Zach Friedrichs, who earned the win, and Matt Loper also took the
mound. Loper posted the most effective performance with only one walk in
three innings to earn the save.
Both teams committed four errors and received eight walks.
