Prep softball: Mustangs edge Century
SANTA ANA - Costa Mesa High senior Tess Lindsay pitched a
complete-game three-hitter and got just enough help from her defense and
her offense to earn a 3-2 nonleague win at Century Tuesday.
Kelly Topps went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI to pace the six-hit
attack for the Mustangs (3-0).
Leading, 2-1, in the sixth Ann Marie Topps singled, stole second and
came all the way home when the throw to second got away for a much-needed
insurance run.
Century scored in the sixth to close the gap and had the bases loaded.
But sophomore second baseman Jane-E Yamamoto, who homered earlier, made a
running catch of a looper toward the foul line to end the threat.
The Mustangs meet Anaheim in the semifinals of the Costa Mesa
Tournament Saturday at 1 p.m.
