The Vanguard University men’s basketball team, seeded seventh, lost
to second-seeded host Westmont College, 62-53, in the first round of the
Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday.
Vanguard trailed, 34-23, after the first half, after shooting 45% from
the field and making 3 of 8 three-pointers.
The Lions, playing without their top two scorers Damion Morbley and
Shane McKim who quit the team earlier in the week, were led by Shawn
Corkery with 16 points and five assists for Vanguard. Ian Boys added 11
points and grabbed a game-high nine boards for the Lions. Vanguard ends
