More construction to come
Bryce Alderton
The price of sewer line repairs is the aggravation of road
construction. Something drivers in Huntington Beach can expect a lot of
this spring while the Orange County Sanitation District installs a larger
sewer pipeline.
The district will begin installing a 108-inch concrete pipeline in May
that will extend from its plant at Brookhurst Street in Huntington Beach
to an existing pump station at Bushard Street and Ellis Avenue in
Fountain Valley.
The new pipe replaces the current 54-inch pipe and is necessary to
provide additional sewage capacity for surrounding cities, said Sonja
Wassgren, a district public information officer.
The pipe is one of nine sewer lines within the district’s existing
service area that will be replaced.
Construction is expected to take 18 months and will start at the
plant, go north along Brookhurst Street to Banning Avenue, west on
Banning, then north on Bushard Street and continue to Ellis Avenue.
Crews will dig trenches to install the pipeline in quarter and
half-mile sections and will close roads in each section for two to three
weeks. Traffic will be rerouted while one lane of traffic will be open
for cars traveling both east and west on cross streets at each
intersection.
