Guerrero honored
UC Irvine Athletic Director Dan Guerrero was honored recently with
the retirement of his No. 8 in baseball at Banning High in Wilmington.
It marked the first time that Banning has retired a baseball jersey.
The announcement was made during the school’s preseason baseball banquet.
Guerrero played at Banning in the 1967, 1968 and 1969 seasons, earning
all-league honors each year and being named to the All-Los Angeles City
Team his senior season. He played shortstop his first year and second
base the last two seasons.
Guerrero went on to compete at UCLA and was inducted into the Bruins’
Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. He is in his 10th year as athletic
director at UCI.
