Two OCC teams earn scholar awards
Two Orange Coast College athletic teams will be honored this spring
for their high achievement in the classroom last year.
To qualify as a Scholar Team, college athletes must excel academically
with a combined team grade-point average during the season of at least
3.0. The teams must also demonstrate better than average accomplishments
in their athletic competition and receive strong recommendations from
college personnel.
The first-year women’s badminton team earned a 3.14 GPA last spring
during its very first season of competition.
The women’s swim team scored a collective GPA of 3.10. The team has now won a total of eight Scholar Team awards over the past 10 years --
the most by any of California’s more than 1,500 different community
college athletic teams.
The two teams will be recognized on March 20 during a special awards
banquet at the annual Community College Commission on Athletics
Convention in Reno.
