A man reportedly walked into a Corona del Mar yogurt store and escaped
with more than $200 after threatening the cashier with a handgun
Wednesday morning, police said.
The man, presumed to be in his 30s, entered the Golden Spoon store in
the 2400 block of East Coast Highway about 11:30 a.m. and asked the
cashier for the price of soft drinks, said Newport Beach Police Sgt.
Trent Harris.
“He then put a bottle of water on the counter, and when the cashier
was about to ring that up, pulled up his shirt and revealed a black
handgun in his waistband and asked her to give him the money,” he said.
The man took the money and escaped on foot, Harris said.
Nobody was injured in the incident and it appeared that no other
customers were in the store during the incident, he said.
The alleged robber is described as a man in his 30s, about 5-foot-9
and 220 pounds with mid-ear sideburns. Anyone with information is asked
to call the Newport Beach Police Department at (949) 644-3662.
