Costa Mesa police nabbed a robbery suspect who left the smoking gun in
the back of his car.
In this case, the smoking gun was a loaded 22-caliber rifle, which
Andrew Perkins allegedly used to rob the 7-11 market on Gisler Avenue on
Sunday night.
The clerk was able to provide officers with the license number from
the suspect’s Toyota 4-Runner, said Sgt. Mike Ginther.
Officers traced the owner to a residence in the 1600 block of
Sandalwood in Costa Mesa and when they got there, found the suspect’s
vehicle parked in front with the rifle lying across the back seat.
Perkins was charged with armed robbery and is being held on $50,000
bail.
