Singing island-style

Nine Newport-Mesa students will be singing on the beach in Hawaii next
week as part of a children’s honor choir.
The students all sing with a choir at Our Lady Queen of Angels in
Newport Beach.
They have been practicing since December and will be leaving next week
for the three-day American Choral Directors Assn. Western Division
Convention at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu.
More than 550 young singers were accepted to participate in three
honor choirs led by world-renowned conductors.
The students participating include Nick Groke, a sixth-grader at Queen
of Angels’ School; Stephen Lamb, a seventh-grader at Queen of Angels;
Jeff Landis, a seventh-grader at Ensign Intermediate; James Monahan, a
seventh-grader at Corona del Mar High; Lizzy Nealey, an eighth-grader at
Queen of Angels; Stephanie Nealey, a fifth-grader at Queen of Angels;
Allyson Page, an eighth-grader at Queen of Angels; Allie Shea, a
sixth-grader at Queen of Angels; and Kimmy VonDerAhe, a sixth-grader at
Queen of Angels.
