Ruby’s readies itself for 20th anniversary
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, a Newport Beach restaurant
temporarily closed its doors to get ready for the celebration.
The first Ruby’s Diner at the end of the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach
is temporarily closed for remodeling in anticipation of the restaurant’s
20th anniversary celebration scheduled for this spring.
Crews will add a fresh coat of paint and refurbish booths, tables and
counter tops, along with installing new kitchen equipment.
The restaurant first opened its doors on Dec. 10, 1982, with a menu of
hamburgers, hot dogs and malts. Sales that day totaled $63.
Ruby’s got its name from the mother of current president and chief
executive Doug Campbell.
The Newport Beach chain has 38 restaurants covering Southern
California, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York,
Washington and Hawaii.
