Roller hockey: Newport tied for first

Newport Harbor High’s club roller hockey team rallied from a
two-goal deficit to defeat Capistrano Valley, 3-2.
The win moved Newport into a tie for first place in the county-wide
club league.
With 2:55 left in the third period, Cory Adler scored the game-winner
for Newport.
Capistrano Valley took a 2-0 lead early on goals by Ryan Robinson and
Michael McCarthy, but Newport’s Chase Kelly sent a slap shot through the
legs of goaltender Marc Burnett to bring Newport within one, 2-1.
Calvin Anderson added a goal with an assist from Kelly to knot the
score.
Vincent Mungo and Alex Whitesides had solid efforts while Newport
goaltender David Christiansen turned away six shots. Newport, which took
41 shots on goal, was paced offensively by Jared McRae and Brett
Anderson.
During last week’s action, Newport beat Mater Dei, 9-1, with three
goals each from Adler and Mungo. McRae, Brett Anderson and Kelly each
chipped in with a goal.
