College softball: Vanguard sweeps Claremont

COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University softball team earned a pair of
8-4 nonconference victories over visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College
in a doubleheader Saturday.
The Lions (7-4-1) scattered 17 wins on their way to the 8-4 win in the
first game as Jill Jessen and Holly Martinez had three hits each. Jenny
Willis earned her first win in the circle this season.
Jessen led Vanguard in the second game, banging out three hits,
driving in two runs and scoring three runs. Lisa Jackson and Cheri Smith
added two hits apiece for the Lions. Vanguard pitcher Celina Camarillo
worked 4 1/3 innings to earn her first win of the season.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps dropped to 1-6.
