Library program pairs teens with adults
A program that connects adults with teens through books is beginning
at a Newport Beach library and is seeking adult volunteers.
Newport Beach Public Library’s START program, in its second year,
pairs an adult with a teen from a Newport Harbor High School English
class through correspondence about a book both have read.
Students will select a book to read and will write about why they
chose it. Adult volunteers will read the descriptions and will pick a
student with whom they’d like to correspond about the selected book and
other life issues.
The pair will communicate for three weeks via e-mail and will meet for
the first time at an April luncheon hosted by the library.
Call (949) 717-3808 to volunteer or get more information about the
program.
