College men’s golf: UCI’s Lavery leads

TUSCON, ARIZ. - The second round of the PING Arizona
Intercollegiate Tournament at The Raven Golf Course was suspended due to
darkness Monday with about two-thirds of the field still on the course.
Play will resume early Tuesday morning.
UC Irvine junior Mike Lavery is tied for the individual lead after
shooting a 4-under 67 in the first round. He is tied with Hunter Mahan of
Oklahoma State and New Mexico’s Jay Reynolds.
After the opening 18 holes Monday, USC leads the 20-team field with a
score of 281, one shot ahead of New Mexico. UCI is tied for 10th place
with Washington, Oregon and Fresno State. All four squads are nine shots
off the pace at 290.
UCI’s Kevin Stevens is in 40th place at 73 while Jeff Coburn and Ryan
Armstrong are tied for 62nd place at 75. Brandon Murray is in 74th place
after shooting a 76 in the opening round.
