LAGUNA BEACH - The Corona del Mar High girls soccer team was left
in a daze after host Laguna Beach stunned the Sea Kings with a 1-0
Pacific Coast League win Thursday.
CdM Coach Ron Evans said the Artists (5-6-5, 2-2-2 in the PCL) scored
the goal in the closing seconds of the first half.
“I felt that (the Artists) kicked the ball out of my goalkeeper’s
hands,” Evans said. “(Rachel Waters) came and grabbed the ball and they
kicked the ball out of her hands, and hurt her arm in the process. But
Laguna came out and played well. They have 15 seniors. Hand it to them
because they did a good job. I think this loss will wake (us) up.”
The Sea Kings (10-4-5, 3-1-2 in the PCL), who are now in a first-place
tie with Costa Mesa, will resume PCL action Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., hosting Estancia and will then visit University in a pivotal matchup Thursday.
