AYSO Region 120: Pride takes top honors

The Costa Mesa Pride girls under-11 APP soccer team of AYSO Region
120 took first place in the Costa Mesa Classic.
The Pride defeated South Irvine, 2-0, in the final. Kayla McComb
scored a goal in the first half to give the Pride a 1-0 lead at the
break. Costa Mesa’s Sarah Braunsdorf snuck in a shot from just inside the
penalty box to give the Pride some breathing room.
The Pride defense of Natalie Plascencia, Kristina Roche, Kristen
Gilligan, Kerry Kiser, Teresa Fox and goalkeeper Tiffany Ranney held the
opposition scoreless throughout the tournament.
Contributing in the midfield were Ayla Medina, Ellie Edles and Marina
Lazos.
Forwards Breanna Arellano, Jennifer Thomas, Brook Urmson and Ally
Krikorian had solid performances.
The Pride defeated South Irvine in the opening round, then earned a
0-0 tie with Mission Viejo’s under-12 Gold All-Star team. The Pride
followed with a 2-0 victory over Newport Beach’s under-12 All-Star team.
In girls under-8 action:
* The Spirit participated in the Anaheim Soccer Association Friendship
Tournament and received an award for superior sportsmanship.
Andy Chavez, Megan Crosson, Brooke Lux, Anna Lux, Hannah Kling, Sierra
Gordon, Amy Feher, Rachel Kerce and Heather Flores contributed to the
team’s award-winning effort on the field.
