Girls soccer: Tars blank Hawks
LAGUNA HILLS - The Newport Harbor High girls soccer team earned its
first Sea View League victory Tuesday, dominating host Laguna Hills en
route to a 2-0 triumph.
Senior Tory Manchester headed in a corner kick by junior Taryn Flamson
in the 34th minute and, despite a 16-1 advantage in shots, Newport
(8-6-2, 1-1-1) settled for the one-goal lead at halftime.
The Tars, ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division II, doubled
the lead in the 52nd minute, when junior Amy Burlingham put away a chip
pass from junior Kate Younglove.
Sophomore Kara DeMille had five saves for Newport, which outshot the
Hawks, 24-7.
Laguna Hills fell to 3-8-3, 0-2.
Coach Jason Sorrell’s Sailors, who Tuesday welcomed back senior
standout Amy Ross, who had missed the first two league games with a
sprained ankle, complete the first round of Sea View action by hosting
Woodbridge Thursday at 5 p.m.
