Boys basketball: Tars edge Aliso

ALISO VIEJO - Newport Harbor High junior Chad Rorden hit a pair of
free throws in the closing minute to propel the Sailors boys basketball
team past upset-minded host Aliso Niguel, 61-60, Wednesday in the Sea
View League opener for both schools.
Newport junior guard Chase Cameron netted an eight-foot runner to
bring the Sailors all the way back from what was a 12-point third-quarter
deficit, but Aliso’s Parham Nematollah tipped in a rebound to give the
Wolverines a 60-59 lead.
Both teams squandered scoring chances after Rorden’s free throws.
Seniors Tony Melum and Greg Perrine led the winners (13-5) with 23
points apiece. The Tars played without junior standout Nedim Pajevic, who
was sick.
The Sailors return to Sea View action Friday at home against Irvine.
