COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College men’s basketball coach Steve
Spencer recorded his first Orange Empire Conference victory when his
Pirates defeated visiting rival Golden West, 83-76, Wednesday.
OCC (4-11, 1-0 in the OEC) opened conference play with a 39-31 lead at
halftime and intensified its defense in the second half. Sophomore Ryan
Webster led the Pirates with 22 points, while freshman Wyshawn Wade came
off the bench and contributed 15 points. OCC sophomore center Mark Meyers
and freshman point guard Stephon Seales added 11 points each.
“I’m not happy with the way we played, but we won,” Spencer said. “We
were able to make some plays at the end of the game and we made our free
throws down the stretch. We tightened up our defense. We were able to
stop dribble penetration and now that’s three wins in a row.”
