Girls basketball: Tars lose in opener, 74-48

ALISO VIEJO - The Newport Harbor High girls basketball team opened
Sea View League play with a 74-48 loss at Aliso Niguel Tuesday.
Sophomore Jillianne Whitfield led the Sailors (3-14, 0-1 in league)
with 14 points, while sophomore Victoria Swigart scored 12.
Newport senior Evita Castillo did not play because of a sprained ankle
suffered in the Costa Mesa Tournament.
Aliso Niguel improved to 11-7, 1-0.
Castillo is expected back Thursday, when the Sailors host Irvine at 7
p.m.
