The Academy of Performing Arts is now accepting applications for the
upcoming school year with a deadline of Feb. 8 for auditions on Feb. 23.
The academy is a magnet school of the Huntington Beach Union High
School District and is located on the Huntington Beach High School
campus. It is devoted to a specialized curriculum in music, theater and
dance.
Theater classes include acting, musical theater, technical theater,
playwriting and directing and TV and media production. Music classes
include vocal, instrumental and songwriting and recording. The dance
department offers classes in ballet, jazz, modern, tap and choreography.
Applicants will be evaluated through competitive admission and
evaluated on their audition or interviews, academic record and
recommendations.

Coping with vision loss
The Braille Institute is offering free classes at various sites
throughout Orange County in January, to teach people how to remain
independent despite loss of vision.
From Jan. 7 through March 11, an eight week seminar will be held at
the Rodgers Seniors’ Center, 1706 Orange Ave. in Huntington Beach. Free
talking books also will be made available through Braille Institute’s
Library Services.

Education Foundation board members wanted
The Huntington Beach Education Foundation is looking for candidates to
serve on its executive board. The foundation’s board is made up of
members of the Huntington Beach business community, certified and
classified employees of the Huntington Beach City School District,
parents and other community members. Board members work side by side to
benefit students and teachers of the 10 schools in the district.

School board meetings canceled for holidays
With the winter break still in session, school board meetings will not
resume again until mid-January. Here are the date, times and places that
