Wheels stop spinning

A 24-year-old Costa Mesa man suffered cuts to his arms and face after
he reportedly ran a red light and caused a three-car wreck Friday,
officials said.
Juan Jose Alfaro was traveling eastbound on Fair Drive about 11:45
a.m. when he ran a red light, said Costa Mesa Police Traffic Officer Matt
Grimmond.
Alfaro’s 1982 Toyota truck then was broadsided by a Jeep Cherokee that
was traveling southbound on Newport Boulevard, he said. As the truck
careened out of control, it hit another vehicle also traveling on Newport
Boulevard, Grimmond said.
Alfaro was taken to Hoag Hospital because he complained of neck pain,
he said. A passenger who was with him escaped with minor cuts from the
broken glass.
The driver of the second car, Denise Boggs, 51, of Tustin injured her
chin when the air bags deployed and the third driver, 41-year-old Brandon
Page of Newport Beach, was not injured, Grimmond said.
Alfaro’s truck rolled over and was totaled, and the other two vehicles
suffered moderate damage, he said.
Grimmond said Alfaro was cited for running a red light and driving
without insurance.
