Robbery suspect in custody
A male transient who allegedly robbed a pie shop at gunpoint and drove
a stolen car was in custody Monday, Huntington Beach Police said.
Paul Huisinga, 39, was booked into the Huntington Beach jail on
charges of armed robbery, hit-and-run and possession of a stolen vehicle
after stealing $800 in cash from Polly Pies, at 9791 Adams Ave. at about
4 p.m., said Huntington Beach Police Lt. Bruce Kelly.
Huisinga brandished a handgun demanding money and fled in a light
colored Lincoln Continental with Michigan license plates that police
eventually found to be a stolen car from Long Beach, Kelly said.
Officers from the Fountain Valley Police Department had stopped the
vehicle at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Bushard Street for an
unrelated traffic violation minutes after the robbery and were later
notified by Huntington Beach Police that the suspect they were looking
for was the one the officers had stopped in the intersection, Kelly said.
Witnesses to the robbery were brought to the scene of the traffic stop
and identified the suspect as the one they saw rob the store, he said.
The money, car and handgun were recovered and returned to their
owners, police said.
No one was injured in the robbery and the amount of bail money was
unknown, police said.
